Shane Riley's portrait

Background

I am from Chesapeake, Virginia, where my love for sports began with watching local teams like the Norfolk Tides and Admirals. Sports have a unique ability to bring together people who might otherwise have little in common. That's what I strive to do in my work, whether in sports or beyond: connect people over stories worth sharing. My study of history serves as an intellectual backbone, grounding my approach in thorough research and deepening my appreciation for the context and experiences that help explain the people and events around us.

At Washington and Lee University, I study journalism and European and Russian history while gaining experience across print, digital, television and radio. My work includes producing live newscasts, reporting for local publications, broadcasting collegiate athletics, and hosting a radio show. During my summer internship with Sinclair Communications in Norfolk, Virginia, I gained hands-on experience in radio broadcasting, from delivering sports updates to contributing to daily programming.

My portfolio features W&L athletics commentary, radio clips, published articles, video packages and podcasts.
